Well-being expert Nic Marks talks about the Happy Planet Index devised by nef (the new economics foundation) at the TED Talks, 2010

Why do we measure a nation’s success by its productivity, instead of by the happiness and well-being of its people? In the following video from TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), Nic Marks introduces the Happy Planet Index, which tracks national well-being against resource use (because a happy life doesn’t have to cost the earth).
